The Papar District is located in the heart of Sabah's West Coast. The district is situated in a wide open plane between the Crocker Mountain Range and the South China Sea and is characterised by its extensive areas of wet rice fields ("sawah padi"). The growing & harvesting of rice is a key feature of traditional life in this area and much of village life, even today, revolves around this and other traditional agricultural practices. One of the key advantages of this area is its proximity to Sabah's capital city Kota Kinabalu, and is only 40minutes drive from the City Centre. The famous North Borneo Railway stops at sidings throughout the district. Papar is well known for its tropical fruits, durian, seafood, and agricultural produce. Papar is also famous for its extensive tradition of Sago harvesting and utilization. |
