Papaga Village Homestay

The Papar District is located in the heart of Sabah's
West Coast. The district is situated in a wide open plane
between the Crocker Mountain Range and the South
China Sea and is characterised by its extensive areas of
wet rice fields ("
sawah padi"). The growing & harvesting
of rice is a key feature of traditional life in this area and
much of village life, even today, revolves around this and
other traditional agricultural practices.

One of the key advantages of this area is its proximity to
Sabah's capital city Kota Kinabalu, and
is only 40minutes
drive from the City Centre
. The famous North Borneo
Railway stops at sidings throughout the district.

Papar is well known for its tropical fruits, durian, seafood,
and agricultural produce. Papar is also famous for its
extensive tradition of Sago harvesting and utilization.
About the Papar Area

Located in Papaga Village not far from the Township of
Papar, the Papaga Homestay Program has 12
participating families, all certified by the Malaysia
Ministry of Tourism. The program is coordinated by
William Lee.

Papaga Village is situated along the banks of the Papar
River. It is a typical village of the Papar District,
surrounded by fruit trees, wet-padi fields, and Sago
swamps.

Papaga Village Homestay Program offers unique live-in
experiences for visitors to stay with a local host family in
their home. This means participants will eat locally
cooked meals (mostly traditional ingredients), and learn
to live like the locals.

The participating Homestay Host Families will provide a
spare rooms for guests in their homes, whereby
bathroom facilities are usually shared with the host
family.

Programs can be tailor made to suit different groups
interests and available time. Two potential "mock-up"
programs,
